Introduced in 1990, the Anderson Drop Top quickly established itself as a flagship model, boutique quality, versatile tones and enhanced playing comfort.
Like other Anderson models, this guitar is built for the Buzz Feiten system allowing for improved intonation and tuning throughout the guitar's range.
Overall this striking guitar is in very good condition with a slight finish delamination around the 5-position lever switch, though at this point there is no chipping. Wear to the 'heavy' style frets and finish are very light and the guitar plays well.
Sold with a gig bag.
Materials and Construction
Based on the classic S-Style design, the Anderson Drop Top pairs a highly figured Maple cap with one of several types of woods for the body back. Typical offerings are Mahogany, Ash, Alder, and Basswood. This specific guitar uses Mahogany for both the body back and neck, with Rosewood for the fingerboard.
The neck joint is unusual for this type of construction, relying on what Anderson calls the 'A-Wedgie' two-bolt neck joint which locks the neck into position in three dimensions.
The hardware is black coated. The head gets a set of non-locking Anderson branded tuners, while the bridge is an Anderson-branded vintage style trem, currently set as 'decked'.
The electronics feature an Anderson HF1 (neck) and HF2 (bridge) humbucker set. The 5-way switch selects between neck humbucker, neck split, both series, both split, and bridge humbucker, while the secondary toggle switch engages the passive VA Booster.
As mentioned, this guitar is designed for use with the patented Buzz Feiten system, which consists of a set of specifications for nut position (shifted slightly towards the first fret), saddle offsets, plus tuning and intonation offsets. It's very helpful to have a high quality tuner that's also designed for use with offsets, such as the Peterson strobe line.
The body and colour-matched headstock finish is a UV-cured type allowing a thinner total coat load. The recipe combines dual-cure sealer, acrylic urethane colour coats, and polyester/acrylate top buffing/gloss coats. Neck finishes, on the other hand, are a thinner satin for smoother feel.
