Description
The Taylor XX-MC (Mahogany/Cedar) and XX-RS (Rosewood/Spruce) Grand Auditoriums were created in 1994 to celebrate Taylor Guitars’ 20th anniversary. These two models debuted the Grand Auditorium design, and aside from the woods for the top, back and sides are identical.
Only 250 of each model were built for a total of 500. The two guitars featured in this post and the previous are both number 210 of 250, with sequential serial numbers dating to September 2, 1994, from the El Cajon, California workshop.
This post presents the Taylor XX-MC Mahogany - Cedar Grand Auditorium model, number 210 of 250. It is in very good condition with very light play wear.
The guitar plays very well, and has the characteristic full Taylor sound and the comfortable neck that has made Taylor so popular.

Taylor XX-MC Construction and Materials
As a 1994 model debuting the Grand Auditorium body design, this guitar uses Taylor's pre-NT neck joint with a straight tenon (distinct from a dovetail) secured with two internal bolts, while the fingerboard tag or extension is glued to the guitar top. The body, as hinted by the 'RS' name, pairs a Red Cedar top with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The head plate is INdian Rosewood. The bridge and rosewood-bound fingerboard are Ebony.
The rosette is composed of an Abalone circle, and the edge of the soundhole has a rosewood binding. The fingerboard on the XX models received a unique inlay set featuring a floral urn executed in engraved Mother of Pearl and an 'XX' in gold wire marking it as a 20th anniversary instrument.
For hardware, a gold-coloured set of Grover Roto-Matics are installed, and that's about it. There are no installed electronics.
