Built in El Cajon, California during 2016, this Taylor K24ce features a Grand Auditorium body with a Venetian cutaway and Sitka spruce-braced, highly figured Hawaiian Koa for the top, back, and sides. This is complemented by a rich Shaded Edgeburst finish and the fingerboard's Maple vine inlay.
This Taylor K24ce example dates to December 7th, 2016 at El Cajon, CA. It's in great original and complete condition with very light wear to the frets and finish. It delivers a full, rich and warm sound that works both in solo and ensemble work.
It is accompanied by its original brown Taylor branded hard shell case.
Taylor experienced increasing demand for solid Koa guitars during the late 1990's and around 2007 the Taylor K24ce entered regular production. In the mid 2010's, Andy Powers modified the traditional X-bracing layout into Performance bracing to improve top response. By 2018, Powers and team developed V-Class bracing to improve volume, sustain, and intonation agreement across the neck. The K24ce was chosen as one of the launch vehicles for V-class bracing.
Materials and Construction
The Taylor K24ce starts with the Grand Auditorium body that fits in the space between classic Dreadnought and Orchestra Model (OM) bodies. The top, back and sides are solid, figured Hawaiian Koa, with Sitka Spruce for the Performance bracing system. The body blocks and linings are Mahogany. The body is bound with Crelicam Ebony around a layer of Maple purfling.
The neck is also Mahogany, mating with the body using Taylor's NT neck joint which makes the inevitable neck reset both simple and inexpensive instead of complex, risky and costly. In this case, prior to fretting the fingerboard received a vine inlay executed in Maple, which extends to a figure on the headstock below the Maple Taylor logo.
Crelicam ebony is used for the binding, bridge, and fingerboard. Taylor Guitars co-owns the Crelicam mill, and focuses on sustainable harvesting which includes better pay for the local loggers and dramatically less waste.
A set of Taylor branded tuners with gold finish is installed. The nut is Tusq, the compensated saddle is Micarta.
As a 'ce' model, the body has a rounded Venetian cutaway and an ES2 pickup / pre-amp set. The pickup is located under the top between the saddle and bridge pin holes, extending through the top into the bridge for improved tone.
The preamp is installed to the bass upper bout side, with discreetly unobtrusive controls. This runs off a standard 9v battery, which is conveniently located in the tail block. While this location is one of the strongest parts of the guitar, it's best to remove guitar cables when not necessary - the battery is on whenever the cable is plugged in, and cables are always tripping hazards.
