The Stonebridge by Furch G24-SR, built at the Furch guitar shops in the Czech Republic, was based on a cutaway Grand Auditorium body design pairing Sitka Spruce and Indian Rosewood. This model was introduced in 1999 and discontinued in 2018 as Furch revamped its worldwide sales structure.
Here we’re looking at a Stonebridge G24-SR, meaning a Grand Auditorium body with cutaway and ’24’ level trim, Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the sides and back. The neck is Mahogany, and Ebony is used for the fingerboard, bridge and head plate.
This Stonebridge G24SR example is in good condition with minor play wear and a couple of pressure marks on the top that don't break the finish. Fret wear is light to moderate, primarily in the lower positions and under the B and E strings. The guitar plays well, with the full, even sonic representation, volume and projection the Grand Auditorium is known for.
The original Stonebridge hard shell case is included.
Stonebridge G24-SR Materials and Construction
Using the Grand Auditorium body shape introduced by Taylor Guitars in 1994, this Stonebridge by Furch G24-SR adds a cutaway (some labels for cutaway models would read GC24-SR). The Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides have Sitka bracing, with Mahogany used for the body blocks and kerfed linings. The neck is also Mahogany, with Ebony for the bridge, head plate and unbound fingerboard. The position markers are small Abalone dots, and the rosette features an Abalone ring. The top is protected by a thin clear pickguard.
The neck joint is a hybrid precision mortise and tenon, and a two-way truss rod is accessed through the sound hole. The head and neck mate with a finger joint, providing maximum gluing surface and stability.
Hardware includes a set of Furch-branded tuners by Ping Well, with 15:1 ratio. The nut and compensated saddle are Graph Tech Tusq. There are no installed electronics,
Frantisek Furch and Stonebridge Guitars International
Frantisek Furch has been building guitars and other musical instruments for decades, and as opportunities opened up in the Czech Republic, moved to full time instrument building. The “Stonebridge” name refers to the Charles Bridge in Prague.
Furch guitars have been well received throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the UK under the Furch name. In 2003, Furch and their Canadian partner Roger Schmidt created the Stonebridge Guitars International distribution company in Kitchener, Ontario Canada to handle the North American market. In 2018, Furch decided to bring worldwide distribution 'in house', opened a US distribution center in Nashville, and dropped the Stonebridge name and that distribution arrangement.
Stonebridge Guitars International still exists and markets the Avenir line of instruments.
