Built during 2025, this Sergei de Jonge Cedar Double Top Classical Guitar features an elevated fingerboard and is in excellent condition throughout.
The original black arched hard shell case is included.
Operating from his family workshop in Chelsea, Quebec, Sergei de Jonge builds many professional grade instruments and runs an intensive instructional guitar building program. His work with French Polish has influenced many other Canadian builders who wish to move away from sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer finishes.
Construction and Materials
For this Sergei de Jonge Cedar Double Top Classical Guitar, a double-top, elevated fingerboard and hybrid neck joint is used.
The term 'double top' indicates that the soundboard is constructed of two layers, in this case Cedar, with a thin Balsa or Paulownia core between them. Nomex is another common material. This construction allows for a stiffer top without adding weight, all towards the goal of greater volume projection, sensitivity and responsiveness.
The body blocks and linings are Mahogany, with Wenge for the sides, back and head plate. The fingerboard is Ebony. The neck joint is a bolted mortise and tenon design, allowing much easier servicing over time and a wide range of action heights. The top's rosette is Spalted Maple and the binding may be Koa. The bridge appears to be Indian Rosewood.
The finish is hand-applied French Polish, one of de Jonge's specialities.
