Description
The Martin D-21 Limited Edition acoustic guitar was built in 1985 to commemorate the leadership change at Martin, and its label is signed by both CF Martin II and III.
This Martin D-21 Limited Edition example is in overall very good condition and has recently had a neck reset, setup and fret dress at The Twelfth Fret repair shop. It plays well, and as it's been played, has a well-developed voice with plenty of balance throughout the range.
The original hard shell case is included.
Construction and Materials
Built from 1955 to 1969, the Martin D-21 model was a blend of D-18 and D-28 elements. Original models used Brazilian Rosewood until stocks ran out, and Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. The model was discontinued as it had too much overlap with the D-28.
Now, the basic Dreadnought D-body is used, but the D-18's Mahogany sides and back are replaced with Indian Rosewood. The faux-tortoise binding and single layer purfling is the same style as the D-18, and the head plate, bridge and unbound fingerboard are also Indian Rosewood - there's no Ebony. The body blocks, necks and linings are Mahogany. The back-strip is a D-28 style.
For hardware, the tuners are Kluson style closed back models with oval metal buttons. There are no electronics installed, this is a purely acoustic guitar.
