Here is a Marlen 210B Double-Neck Pedal Steel Guitar built in 1971.
A classic early 1970s double-neck pedal steel built by Leonard Stadler at Stadler Music Co. in Reidsville, North Carolina. The Marlen name itself comes from the partnership of Marvin Hudson and Leonard “Lenny” Stadler (MAR + LEN) whose instruments earned a strong reputation among players for solid construction, relatively light weight, and a distinctive, musical tone.
This is a Model 210B, the double-neck (D-10 style) configuration that was a mainstay of the Marlen line. Serial number 311791 follows the company’s early coding system: the last four digits reversed give the year of manufacture (1971), with the preceding digits indicating it was the 31st instrument completed that year. Like most Marlens of this period, it uses the company’s pull-release changer system, simple, robust one-piece fingers with additional stops and springs underneath that allow both raises and lowers.
The guitar is set up with three knee levers in the Jimmy Day configuration. Named for the influential steel player Jimmy Day, this arrangement reverses the positions of the primary A and C pedals relative to the more common Emmons setup (placing them in CBA order).
