Here we are looking at a José Romero Flamenco Blanca guitar in very good condition, signed and dated to 1995 at Romero's Madrid shop.
Hand built in the traditional manner, this guitar pairs a European Spruce top with Cypress for the back and sides, and Spanish Cedar (Cedro) for the neck. The fingerboard is Ebony, and Indian Rosewood is used for the head plate, bridge, binding and heel cap. The head plate features a marquetry decoration, using several coloured woods. The top bracing is Spruce, while the back bracing is Cedro. The top has two protective plates – the full size Golpeador, and a small section behind the tie block to protect the top from string ends. This guitar has not had the 12-hole tie block conversion.
The tuners are Fustero models with gold coloured plates, white rollers and black buttons.
It is constructed in the traditional Spanish style with slipper heel, where the sides slot into the neck block. This is a long scale, 662mm (26.06 inch) guitar.
This guitar is in overall very good shape with a couple of small dents – one is on the side, near the treble heel, the other on the lower treble bout side. It plays well – Flamenco guitars tend to have lower action to facilitate rapid playing. The sound is bright, as expected from a Flamenco guitar, with good definition and clarity. This is a very good instrument.
A Superior brand hard shell case is included.
