The Jackson USA Signature Phil Collen PC1 first appeared in late 1996 as a collaboration between Jackson and the Def Leppard guitarist who had been playing Jacksons since the 1980's. This spectacular example dates to 1999 and features a Chlorine Blue finish over a heavily quilted Maple top, 18v Sustainer circuit, and gold Floyd Rose set.
This guitar is in very good, clean condition with only very light wear to the finish and plating and vanishingly light wear to the frets. Sold with a Fender gig bag that contains the trem arm.
Materials and Construction
Built for high performance, the Jackson USA Signature Phil Collen PC1 starts with a SuperStrat concept with a Mahogany body back and highly figured Maple top, 24 Jim Dunlop 6100 jumbo fret, compound radius Maple neck and of course a gold-plated Floyd Rose system. The body heel is tapered to improve upper fret access.
To that, it adds a DiMarzio® Super 3™ DP152 in the bridge position, a DiMarzio® HS-2™ DP116 in the middle, and a PC1™ Sustainer Driver at the neck. The sustainer circuit is powered by a pair of standard 9v batteries in series, producing 18vDC, accessed from the back. The controls are master volume, Sustainer intensity, 5 way pickup selector, and two mini toggles - an on/off to activate the Sustainer and the other a three-position to select between Fundamental, Mix and Harmonic modes.
The truss rod adjuster is at the head - this is the third version of the neck. The original used a 'vintage' adjuster location at the heel, which was found to be inconvenient. The second placed it at the head, but with a three-screw cover. However, removing the cover to make quick adjustments was also inconvenient so it was simply removed.
