DESCRIPTION:
Shown here is a beautiful Heiden A-29 Deluxe Mandolin Shellac Burst, built during 2003 in Chilliwack, British Columbia. We don't see these very often as his instruments are prized and played.
Michael Heiden has been building quality instruments since the 1970's and his work is highly respected. Originally working in Vancouver as a musician, repairman and builder, he moved to Chilliwack and since then to Creston, B.C.
Heiden offers three trim levels, Standard, Deluxe and Artist regardless of A or F style, each adding features and options such as binding and inlay sets. This Heiden A-29 Deluxe features hand carved Spruce top, highly figured hand carved Maple back, and Maple neck with a Gaboon Ebony fingerboard. The headstock features the Heiden logo and a classic engraved Torch inlay in Abalone and Mother of Pearl; the position markers are Abalone dots.
The tuners are gold coloured Schaller models with faux Pearl buttons, and the tailpiece is an old-style Heiden model. The engraved tailpiece cover appears to have been buffed - the gold plating is mostly gone, with some remains just visible in the engravings. The tailpiece base plating is still intact. The Shellac finish is original and in good condition with wear expected from two decades of use. Fret wear appears light but as they are in such good condition, it's likely been serviced recently. It plays very well and not only has a wonderfully full, warm and sweet sound, it's quite loud.
The original white Calton hard shell case is included.
