Description
BaseGd on the dreadnoughts of the early 1960's, the Guild D-40 Standard was aimed at players who need playability and tone delivered with plenty of volume and projection. These models are based on the Bluegrass Jubilee D-40, the sonic artillery Guild introduced in 1963.
The Guild D-40 Standard uses the Dreadnought body size, pairing an Adirondack Spruce-braced Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The head plate, fingerboard and bridge are Indian Rosewood. The tuners are Gotoh branded models, and there are no installed electronics.
This example dates to April 28 2011 at the New Hartford plant. It is in very good, clean condition with only minor cosmetic wear and very light fret wear. It plays well with sufficient saddle above the bridge. Like other Guild dreadnoughts, it's a full sounding guitar with plenty of presence.
Sold with its original hard shell case, containing the truss rod wrench, end pin and paperwork.
Guild's New Hartford plant was established in 2008 under Fender ownership, and closed in 2014 when Fender sold the Guild line to Cordoba who moved production to Oxnard, California. The VP of Manufacturing and R&D at the Oxnard plant was Ren Ferguson, who had been key to the Gibson Acoustic shop in Bozeman Montana and Flatiron before that.
