Launched at the 2013 NAMM show, the Gibson Music City Jr. with B-Bender electric guitar takes a modified Les Paul Junior with an Ash body and P-90s and adds a Gibson special Glaser B-Bender, operated from the upper strap button. It's possible to alter the setup to be a G bender.
Joe Glaser built his B or G bender independently of the work done by Gene Parsons and Clarence White and while the sonic effects are very similar, the mechanisms and mounting are very different. The Glaser version for Gibson is also different from their standard models, with the activator on the strap pin, rather like the Parsons-White.
This unusual and rather rare instrument was built in a limited run from 2013 to 2014 and is not in the Gibson catalogs. This example dates to June 3, 2013 and is in very good condition with only minor wear. The open pore finish is very forgiving, and fret wear is negligible.
The original floral-tooled faux-leather brown hard shell case is included, and contains the QC inspection card listing the model number as LPMCJASCH1, likely expanding to "Les Paul Music City Junior Ash Chrome Nashville".
Materials and Construction
The Gibson Music City Jr. with B-Bender uses the same basic design as the standard Les Paul Junior with two P-90s, but with a body made of Swamp Ash and Maple for the neck and 12-inch radius fingerboard. The neck angle is reduced to accommodate the lower-profile Glaser bender bridge.
Electronics consist of a pair of P-90s with individual volume controls and a master tone control, a three-way selector switch and the output jack on the side.
Hardware starts with a set of Grover Roto-Matics with kidney style buttons. There is a faux-tortoise pickguard. Then there's the Glaser Bender bridge, with the B saddle set up as the moving string and an adjustment screw near the tail strap pin. It is possible to shift the bender to the G string by moving the saddle and making a few adjustments.
