First appearing in 1975 until 1980 and endorsed by Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley of KISS, the bolt-together Gibson Marauder solidbody electric guitar was targeted at both Fender and import guitar buyers. It was fairly successful, with over 7000 built.
The Gibson Marauder originally featured a Canadian Maple neck (mahogany in 1979) with a rosewood fingerboard and a pointed headstock similar to the Flying V. In 1978 and 1979, fingerboards were maple. The neck bolted onto a solid body made of alder, or during 1978 and 1979, mahogany. Various standard Gibson finishes were available - sunburst, wine red, black, and a clear satin.
For the Marauder's wiring, the pickups were new designs by Bill Lawrence - a humbucker in the neck position and a single coil at the bridge. At first, a standard toggle switch near the cutaway served as the pickup selector, but an innovative blend control soon appeared allowing any mix of the two pickups.
This example dates to the August 18, 1978 and is built with the mahogany body and maple fingerboard. It appears to be in almost all original condition, with all external components in place including the Kluson 'Waffleback' tuners.
The original satin finish is worn through on the back near the contour.
A non-original teardrop shaped hard shell case is included.
