This 2020 Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s AA Top with Tobacco Burst nitro lacquer finish is in very good, clean, all original condition with original case. There are a few small wear areas in the lacquer in usual areas around the edges of the body and head and some pick marks to the top finish on the bass side of the strings. Fret wear is very light and the guitar plays well, with a full, rich tone. It's a very nice guitar to play.
The original brown Quality hard shell case with Gibson logo contains the case keys and a 'Standard' engraved truss rod cover; the traditional blank black/white cover is installed. From its introduction until 1958, the maple-topped Les Paul Model had a goldtop finish, while the solid, one-piece mahogany body Les Paul Custom (the carved top surface was not a cap) was black with Ebony fingerboard, gold hardware and more binding. The name 'Les Paul Standard' accompanied the introduction of sunburst finishes in 1958, but the truss rod cover engraved with 'Standard' did not appear until 1974.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s delivers the legendary tone, craftsmanship, and vintage styling that have made the Les Paul one of the most sought-after electric guitars in music history. Built to capture the essence of Gibson's Golden Era, this iconic instrument combines authentic 1950s specifications with premium materials and exceptional playability.
Materials and Construction
Pairing a solid, non-weight-relieved mahogany body and an AA-grade carved maple top, the Les Paul Standard 50s produces the rich sustain, warmth, and resonance that players expect from a classic Gibson electric guitar.
Following 1950's spec, the body is not weight relieved. Weight relief appeared in late 1982 because mahogany supplies were coming from second growth forests or plantations. This faster growth made the woods denser and heavier, adding considerable weight - some examples exceeded 12 pounds.
The rounded 50s-style mahogany neck is paired with a smooth rosewood fingerboard featuring traditional acrylic trapezoid inlays, providing a comfortable playing experience and timeless visual appeal. The headstock Gibson logo is Mother of Pearl.
One area where this is not strictly 'vintage spec' is the fretwire. Original 1950s fretwire was low and narrow, shifting to a wider profile in late 1959, but modern players generally prefer the taller crown of modern Medium Jumbo wire for easier bending and longer service life.
Vintage-inspired hardware includes the renowned wireless ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons, and aged gold Top Hat control knobs. Together, these components ensure outstanding tuning stability, sustain, and authentic vintage aesthetics.
For electronics, this Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s is loaded with a calibrated Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) pickup set using Alnico II magnets, delivering classic PAF-inspired tones with exceptional clarity, warmth, and dynamic response.
Premium electronics, including audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors, provide smooth control and enhanced tonal versatility for everything from blues and classic rock to modern genres.
The finish is Gibson's classic nitrocellulose lacquer Tobacco Sunburst, with a small chip around the lower back body edge and one corner of the rear headstock top.
