Description
The Gibson L-7C Reissue was built in Bozeman, Montana from 2007 to 2012, in small numbers. Based on but not entirely copying the early 1950's L-7C - the 'C' representing Cutaway - the reissue has a shorter, 24.75 (627.7mm) scale length and uses Indian rather than Brazilian Rosewood. As with the original, this was intended as an entirely acoustic instrument since amplification was not common yet.
This beautiful Gibson L-7C Reissue dates to July 2nd 2008 and is in excellent condition, with one practical modification. It has an added Bartolini jazz pickup and volume control professionally mounted to the pickguard, with the output jack on the lower treble side.
The guitar plays very well. It appears to have been played only very lightly so its voice has not yet fully developed, but that will happen over time.
The original hard shell case is included.
Materials and Construction
As with the early 1950's originals, the Gibson L-7C Reissue features a Solid Spruce top, X-braced in the style of the late 1930's. The back is carved, bookmatched figured maple, with figured maple sides, Mahogany body blocks, linings and neck, Indian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and Mother of Pearl split-parallelogram position markers and headstock inlays.
The pickguard originally was not cut for a pickup, and the neck extension is not shaped to accept a Johnny Smith style fingerboard mount pickup. The Bartolini Jazz pickup and the volume control is now mounted to the underside of the pickguard and there is a small bit of tape under the pickup to prevent it from bouncing on the top. The output jack is mounted to the lower treble side. This installation was done very cleanly.
