Based on 1930's models, the Gibson Jackson Browne Model 1 and its pickup-equipped cousin the Model A appeared in late 2010 and was built for only a few years.
For many years, players like Jackson Browne and Norman Blake sought out models like the ultra-deep body Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe, and had their 'Hawaiian' lap-style square necks removed and regular 'Spanish' necks installed. The result was an instrument with fantastic, deep and well articulated basses all the way up to sparkling trebles.
Browne worked with Gibson staff for many years, aiming towards what became the Model 1 and Model A - basically a deep-bodied Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe with a factory stock spanish-style round neck, 30's style light construction and dark sunburst finish. Not all of the original styles of woods were used: Adirondack Red Spruce for the top, but the sides and back are listed as English Walnut, with Mahogany for the body blocks, linings and neck. However, the Rosewood used in these modern versions is Indian, not the original Brazilian. The fingerboard position markers are Abalone slotted diamonds. The tuners are gold-plated Waverly open-gear models with grained ivoroid buttons. The only change to its factory-original condition is the addition of a strap pin on the heel.
This wonderful guitar is in very good, clean condition with only very light wear. As such, while it does sound great right now, its voice has not yet developed fully and will only continue to improve with use.
The full, original catalog name for this instrument was 'Gibson Custom Shop Jackson Browne Signature Model 1.' However, there are no signatures or non-Gibson logos anywhere on the guitar. At Browne's insistence, Gibson left off anything that would detract from the image of a real 1930s model.
Sold with the original hard shell case.
