Here is a Gibson Chet Atkins Country Gentleman Semi Hollowbody Electric from 2000.
The Gibson Chet Atkins Country Gentleman was built from 1986 to 2005, but Gibson’s association with Chet Atkins began in 1981 with the CEC Cutaway Electric Classical.
While most of the Chet Atkins Country Gentleman guitars were made by Gretsch, that was impossible after 1981 when Gretsch temporarily folded. Gibson stepped in to work with Atkins, and produced a number of excellent, and ground-breaking instruments. The CEC has survived, but not as a Gibson model. Many other companies make a similar design and the most successful refinement is the Godin ACS series.
The gold Schaller tuners have metal tulip buttons with fold-out cranks. The body has bound F-holes and uses a highly figured, flame maple laminate set and it has an ES style center block to significantly reduce feedback at stage levels. The neck is maple with an Ebony fingerboard, unbound but sporting the Neo-Classic ‘thumbnail’ position markers. Unique to this model, there’s a bound, faux tortoise arm rest on the lower bass bout that matches the bound pickguard.
The wiring layout is classic 1950’s Gretsch – pickup selector, master volume, individual volumes, and master tone.
This example is in very good overall shape with only some light play wear. It plays well up the neck and comes with the original hardshell case.
