Designed by Leo Fender, the G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy first appeared as a 'Factory Modded' version of the ASAT Classic around 1999 and was in the catalog from 2001 to 2025 when the company closed. The primary modification was the addition of a Seymour Duncan humbucker designed by Seth Lover in the neck position.
The ASAT Classic model, introduced in 1990, continued Leo Fender’s original design, the classic ‘T-Style’ introduced in 1951. The ‘ASAT’ name refers to a an ASAT (Anti-Satellite) missile system!
This specific Bluesboy dates to 2005 and sports a Butterscotch Blonde finish. It is in very good, clean condition with minor cosmetic wear. With the possible exception of a set of Schaller strap locks, it is in all original condition.
This guitar plays well with a comfortable action. Acoustically it is very resonant and has plenty of sustain. Tonally, the neck humbucker and Magnetic Field Design (MFD) bridge pickup makes it ideal for many genres.
Sold with its original rectangular molded hard shell case containing the Certificate of Authenticity.
The Beginning and End of G&L
G&L was founded in 1979 primarily by Leo Fender (died 1991) and George Fullerton (died 2009), as Fender's association with Music Man came to an end. It ran until ceasing operations in September 2025. BBE Sound, the parent company, legally dissolved on October 28, 2025. Fender Musical Instrument Corp. apparently purchased the G&L intellectual property but at time of writing, no official statements confirm this.
Materials and Construction
Drawing closely from Leo’s classic layout, this G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy pairs a Swamp Ash body and a Maple neck with 25.5 inch scale, 9.5 inch radius, 22 fret Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
Sealed G&L branded tuners are at the head, leading to the familiar ‘ashtray’ style string-through-body bridge with six fully adjustable brass saddles.
The electronics are in an H-S format, with a Seymour Duncan humbucker at the neck, designed by Seth Lover, and a single coil MFD pickup with adjustable polepieces at the bridge. These lead to a selector switch and master Volume and Tone controls, very much in Leo’s ‘T-Style’ wiring.
