Here is a vintage Fender Telecaster electric guitar from 1967 with plenty of personality, a true relic from the golden era of electric guitars.
Condition and Construction
With nearly sixty years of use, this Fender Telecaster is far from perfect cosmetically, and that’s part of what gives it so much character. The modifications reflect the evolving needs of players over time. It has the classic Tele tone and feel, with the solid ash body and one piece, C-profile maple neck that gives it brightness and punch.
This specific example has the serial number 207667, dating to 1967 at Fullerton CA. The original Blonde finish is heavily worn from years of real-life use. The durable 'Fullerplast' conversion varnish, filler/sealer undercoat is significantly intact. The name Fullerplast refers not to Fullerton, but to its inventor, Fuller O'Brien. Fullerplast was discontinued in 1967 as full polyurethane finishes came online.
The neck was refretted likely with Dunlop 6150 wire and has a new nut, making the guitar very playable; it may have been dressed since the refret. The refret did not involve planing the fingerboard, preserving what's left of the original finish patina and wear. It looks and feels great.
The black rectangular Fender branded hard shell case, body, neck, tuners, switch and one pot, bridge and pickups are all original though the bridge pickup was recently rewound to vintage spec. The replaced pot is from a 1972 model.
The pickguard is a reproduction, intended to allow the re-use of the original neck pickup. The original pickguard was modified to accommodate a Gibson humbucker in the neck position, a very common modification at the time. And as was often the case during that period, the neck pickup cavity modification may not have involved a router. At one point, the output jack plate was replaced with a four-screw, Gibson style part; this has been changed back to the Fender cup style.
The sound is remarkably resonant and alive, even after all its decades of use. It still delivers the iconic snap, sparkle and clarity Telecasters are known for. It is perfect for country, blues, or rock.
Summary
The wear on this instrument is obvious: the front finish has worn almost completely, leaving the sealer coats exposed and many dings and chips that tell the story of decades of playing.
This Tele carries true vintage character and still delivers tone that resonates with the soul of a 1967 Fender.
This is a battle-scarred beauty for players and collectors who value history, authenticity, and that unmistakable Telecaster sound.
