Description
This ESP LTD B-1005 Deluxe dates to 2019 and is an early example of a significant rework of the model, with a Swamp Ash and Bocote body and Nordstrand pickups. The natural finish is thin and open-pore, with a satin sheen.
The '5' in the B-1005 designation indicates a 5-string model - the B-1004 had four strings. This example is in very good condition with very light fret wear (despite round wound strings!) and a few small dents to the thin finish.
Sold without case or bag, but we have those on hand.
This version uses a standard single-scale layout. A multiscale or fan-fret model launched at the 2016 NAMM show as an SE model in 4 and 5 string versions, but by 2018 the SE designation was dropped. In 2019, these multiscale basses received the same rework as the standard single-scale, and were named "B‑1005MS" or Multi-Scale. These were all part of the Deluxe line.
Discontinued during 2025, the ESP LTD B-1005 Deluxe models first appeared in 2009 with a mahogany body, flamed maple top, Hipshot hardware, and EMG electronics.
Materials and Construction
For 2019, ESP reworked the LTD B-1005 Deluxe in both standard and multi-scale models and the 4-string variant, the LTD B-1004.
The basses still used a six-bolt neck attachment, but the body was now Swamp Ash with a Bocote top. The neck was a combination or Wenge and Purple Heart with a 34 inch scale, 15.75 inch radius Pau Ferro fingerboard. The MS models used a 34 inch to 37 inch scale.
The tuners and bridge are by Gotoh, in black finish and in very good condition.
For electronics, the ESP LTD B-1005 Deluxe uses a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits pickups - here the Big Split 5 - into an ESP ABQ-3MS 3-band EQ system.
The controls are in two rows. The top row is Master Volume, and Balance or blend, with larger knobs. The lower row has three smaller knobs Bass, Mid, and Treble.
There are also two mini-toggle switches. One switch is a bypass to run in passive mode. This ability is useful not only for additional tones, but in case of battery failure or preamp issues. The second switch shifts the midrange frequency center between 400Hz and 800Hz.
