Built in the USA during 2000, this natural finish, Ash-bodied Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling 4 Bass is in very good clean condition with only minor play wear. This model was introduced in 1993 as a slightly smaller, lighter bass with more versatile and modern tones than the classic StingRay.
The Sterling Bass model is named for Ernie Ball's son Sterling (the current owner and chairman of the company; his son Brian Ball is CEO) and is US made, but is not to be confused with Sterling by Music Man instruments, their lower cost import instrument line.
Materials and Construction
This is an excellent bass and in great shape. The body is Northern Ash, paired with an oil/wax finish, 34 inch scale Indian Rosewood fingerboard Maple neck. The head is Music Man's characteristic 3+1 tuner setup, reducing the overall instrument length and improving balance. The truss rod adjuster is a spoke type at the body end, easily accessible without removing the neck or pickguard.
The bass plays well and cleanly, and offers an impressive range of tones with its ceramic humbucker that can be run in series, parallel or a single coil mode with phantom coil for noise cancellation. The four controls are active volume, then treble, mid and bass EQ controls with center detents for boost and cut, or neutral at the détente point.
It's important to note that this circuit is fully active with no passive bypass, and runs off a single, standard 9v battery. Should the battery fail during performance, the bass will lose all signal.
Sold with a rectangular black un-branded hard shell case, likely original, containing the warranty card, strap and cloth.
