The Eastman PCH1-D top or sound board is one of the main components in tone production on an acoustic guitar. While laminate tops have more durability they are stiff and don’t vibrate well. The solid top vibrates with the energy of the strings and produces tone, and its ability to do this develops over time with playing. This is a guitar that will grow with you!
Laminate tops, found on many other guitars in this price range, are very stable and helpful when you can’t control the humidity – particularly in winter – but they do not develop tonally. Here, the solid Sitka Spruce top is mounted with a laminate Sapele body, reducing cost and improving stability. The neck is solid Okoume, with Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge. The finish is a simple ‘open pore’ lacquer, with little filler and not buffed to gloss. This model is available with a ‘natural’ finish, and also in a ‘Classic’ stained finish, rather like a violin’s sunburst.
The Eastman PCH1-D uses a classic dreadnought model body shape that provides great volume and low end power. It is mostly used for medium to heavy strumming and more aggressive flat picking styles.
The neck profile of the Eastman PCH1-D is comfortable for most players and the combination of open pore and satin finish make for a lovely rustic aesthetic. Getting started with a great sounding and affordable acoustic guitar has never been as good as it is right now.
