Here is a lovely Douglas Harrison GB Custom Redwood Burl top from 2017. It's a lightweight thin body archtop, based on a design for the late jazz artist Gary Benson.
Douglas Harrison has been building archtop guitars in Toronto for some years now and his GB Custom has been very popular. Most I have seen are true custom models, with varying tops and hardware configurations.
This Harrison GB Custom Redwood Burl is in very good condition with only the slightest wear. It plays very well and delivers a wide range of tones. The light weight definitely contributes to comfort during longer sessions!
The original with its original Harrison-branded Ameritage hard shell case, which contains an alternate TonePros AVR-1 tune-o-matic bridge top and set of metal tuner buttons.
Douglas Harrison GB Custom Materials and Construction
This Harrison GB Custom Redwood Burl example uses a spectacular piece of Redwood Burl for the top, hand carved with two F-holes. The rest of the body is African Mahogany with Macassar Ebony binding.
The neck is of three piece Tropical Mahogany construction with Gabon Ebony used for the fingerboard, tailpiece, truss rod cover and the installed bridge. The frets are jumbo, very cleanly installed, dressed and polished.
Hardware includes Gotoh 510 Height Adjustable Post (HAP) tuners with Ebony buttons, and a custom made Ebony tailpiece. The currently installed bridge is ebony, but the bridge posts accommodate the TonePros AVR-1 tune-o-matic stored in the case. The strap pins are Schaller locking style.
The electronics are based around a Lindy Fralin 8.5k humbucker and master volume and tone controls. The Tone pot is a push/pull model, wired to put the pickup coils in series or parallel.
