The concert-grade Cervantes Hauser Signature Classical guitar comes from the top of the Cervantes 'Traditional' line, following the work of Hermann Hauser.
This example was built around 2010 at Alejandro Cervantes' workshop in San Diego, California and plays well. It is in good condition with wear levels expected for a top shelf guitar that's been protected, but played. The top's French Polish finish has markings from finger contact, while the body's nitrocellulose lacquer is naturally sinking into the wood pores and has light marks from contact with the player's clothing. The neck has a few wear areas consistent with hours of play.
This dedicated use is reflected in the well-developed voice of this guitar. It is full, rich, responsive and expressive. It has plenty of power and projection, but in case more volume is needed, a set of three passive K&K Pure Mini transducers are installed below the bridge leading to a standard end-pin jack.
This guitar has recently had a small top crack (near the edge of the lower bass bout) repaired at The Twelfth Fret Repair shop and is in very good working condition.
Sold with its original hard shell case.
Materials and Construction
The Cervantes Hauser Signature follows the traditional construction pattern of higher end classical guitars where the Spanish style construction ties the sides into the neck.
The top is fan-braced Spruce, paired with Cocobolo for the sides, back, and head plate. The neck and body blocks are Spanish Cedar, while the fingerboard is Ebony and the bridge Indian Rosewood.
The tuners are Sloane models with Ebony buttons and are very smooth and accurate. The nut and saddle are bone.
The finish is in two parts. The top receives a French Polish to impose minimum restrictions on its ability to vibrate. The rest of the guitar is sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer.
