This is absolutely spectacular - a Bourgeois OM Custom Master Grade Koa AT (Aged Tone) steel string guitar, built during 2021 in Lewiston Maine. This instrument is in pristine, excellent condition, with vanishingly light wear throughout. It appears to have been almost never played since its purchase from a Bourgeois dealer in 2021. Even with the very light use, the tone is very good, evenly balanced with plenty of sparkle, midrange and depth.
This Bourgeois OM Custom Master acoustic guitar in Grade Koa AT features Hawaiian Koa for the top, back, and sides. The body blocks and neck are tropical Mahogany. The bracing is Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce, and the bridge plate Maple. Ebony is used for the bridge and Ebony-bound fingerboard. The head plate and heel cap are from a beautifully grained piece of Macassar Ebony with a satin finish, while the rest of the guitar has a gloss finish. Animal Protein glues, sometimes called 'hide glue', were used in construction. The binding and rosette are deceptively simple using layers of plain black and grained ivoroid. The graining creates an effect that is, in some descriptions, described as herringbone.
This wonderful guitar has the AT (Aged Tone) treatment. This often means the use of 'Torrefied' woods, treated with specific low to no-oxygen air compositions and temperatures to simulate the effects of age on woods.
"Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce bracing, animal protein glue construction, and proprietary Aged Tone finish to deliver a “broken-in” vintage tone out of the box."
For hardware, there is very little! Waverly tuners are at the head, with bone for the nut and compensated saddle. This is a strictly acoustic guitar with no pickups or electronics.
The original TKL-built, Bourgeois hard shell, six-latch case with faux-gator covering and support strap fittings, is included and is in equally excellent condition.
Dana Bourgeois has played a significant role in the current popularity of the OM (Orchestra Model) design, which delivers an excellent tonal balance with plenty of volume and dynamics. These are nearly ideal for fingerstyle playing.
