DESCRIPTION:
This Sergei de Jonge Steel String Guitar in French Polish pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Padauk for the sides, back, head plate, backstrap and rosette. Built during 2018 in Chelsea Quebec, it is in very good, clean condition, and delivers a full, rich and complex sound. Like many guitars from the de Jonge shops, this model has a French Polish finish, providing protection to the woods with a minimal imposition on the guitar's vibration.
This 2018 de Jonge Steel String guitar follows de Jonge's own pattern, influenced by the OM style but quite a bit wider and deeper. The top is Spruce, with body blocks and neck of Mahogany, and Padauk for the sides, back, headplate and backstrap (the plate on the back of the head). The bridge fingerboard and truss rod cover are Ebony, and position markers are limited to side dots. The top also has a thin, clear pickguard, helpful as French Polish tends to be thin. The tuners are gold-plated with black buttons. This beautiful, well built guitar has a great sound and plays well, with plenty of saddle above the bridge top. The neck joint is a hybrid bolted tenon, making the neck reset that all steel string guitars of a certain age come to require quite a bit easier and faster.
Sergei de Jonge has been a fixture on the Canadian guitar building scene for many years. His children are also builders, and Sergei also runs a five week intensive course of instruction in acoustic guitar building. More than a few established builders have studied French Polish techniques with de Jonge.
The original Tweed double arched hard shell case is included, and contains the truss rod key.
