Here is a Sergei De Jonge 17 String Classical Guitar, designed by Theodor Lebar and handcrafted by Sergei De Jonge in 1983 over a period of six months.
Theodor Lebar was renowned as a guitar teacher in Toronto, Ontario from 1963-2023. He taught guitar at York University, having started up their guitar program. He was also was president of the Guitar Society of Toronto at one stage. In addition to this he was an inventor, having invented 17 and 19 string classical guitars.
This is a one of a kind piece. Spanning a total of 48 inches in length, it has 8 strings on the neck and 9 bass strings on the extended neck. The back and sides and bridge are Cocobolo. The top is Western Red Cedar. The neck is Honduran Mahogany with a Gabon Ebony fingerboard.
Since being on display at the front of the store this exceptional instrument has garnered a lot of second glances for it's creative brilliance. A truly unique item.
