This Northfield NF-F2SB F-Style Oval Hole Mandolin features a Blacktop finish, harkening back to the early days when Gibson remade the mandolin world by introducing violin construction techniques.
While the 'SB' in the name normally stands for 'Sunburst', this very nice oval hole F-style model somehow received the blacktop treatment. Oval hole models tend to have a warmer rounder tone than the F-hole models seen in so many bluegrass bands, and this gives them an advantage in Celtic genres.
The Northfield NF-F2SB is built with an Adirondack Spruce top, giving it a bit more 'headroom' when played hard. The back is carved, solid Maple, with Maple also used for the sides and neck. The headplate, fingerboard bridge and finger-rest are also Ebony.
Overall this great sounding, great playing mandolin is in very good condition with very light fret wear and a few small dents around the body and head.
Sold with its original rectangular hard shell case.
