Description
This well preserved example of the Nechville Leon Hunt Phantom Curly Maple Banjo Amber dated 2013, features top grade, highly figured curly maple and cocobolo. Based closely on the banjo made for Leon Hunt and dating to March of 2013, it is in very good condition physical and playing condition with light wear.
The original hard shell case is included.
This is not a ‘formal’ Nechville model and didn't appear in the Nechville product catalogs.
The Nechville Phantom Curly Maple Leon Hunt Banjo was made for The Twelfth Fret and features a wooden tone ring combined with a mix of steel and nylon ball bearings giving the warm, fat tone of the famous Nechville ‘Zeus’ model. The attractive honey amber on the metal components is a limited run finish.
This banjo was built at Nechville's original facility in Bloomington, Minnesota. In 2020, Tom Nechville and subsequently the rest of the shop moved to Sisters, Oregon.
Construction and Materials
The Nechville Leon Hunt Phantom features Nechville’s Cocobolo TimbrTronic Tone Ring, Nechville’s exclusive Cyclotronic Rolling Rim Pot System and a 3 Ply Maple rim, Nechville's patented Heli-Mount Frame and adjustable radiused neck attachment, plus a Remo medium crown head. The resonator and armrest are nothing short of spectacular.
The neck is highly figured maple with a cocobolo fingerboard, the 5th string tunnel and a two-way truss rod. The fingerboard has a 7 to 12 inch compound radius fingerboard and 26.4 inch scale length.
The finish is a clear gloss with a light walnut tint to bring out the figure of the maple. The metal parts have a light amber tint.
Hardware
For hardware, the Leon Hunt Phantom gets a set of five Gold coloured sealed tuners, and standard Nechville Phantom components with a Cocobolo armrest. The amber tint on the hardware is very attractive.
