DESCRIPTION:
The National Radio Tone Bendaway is based on one of National's early wood-body models, dating to their opening in 1989, and was re-issued in 2012 and on offer for a few years.
This model is a single-cone 'biscuit' style resophonic guitar. Originally a standard non-cutaway model with F-holes, the National Radio Tone Bendaway version appeared around 1995, with distinctive slotted soundholes and a deep cutaway providing easy access to the higher registers.&
This National Radio Tone Bendaway was built during June of 2013 at San Luis Obispo, California. The body is Maple laminate, the neck is Maple with an unbound Ebony fingerboard. For hardware, the tuners are open-gear 'NRP' branded models with black buttons; the bright-nickel plated resonator cover has a traditional National 'sieve' hole pattern. A metal trapeze style tailpiece finishes off the hardware. there are no electronics installed. The finish is satin, a tobacco sunburst and is in very good condition; the headstock logos include the National Shield plate and vertical 'Radiotone' text in a cartoon-style font.
Overall this guitar is in excellent, clean and all original condition (except for the strings). Wear to the finish, plating and frets is vanishingly light. These instruments are quite loud, and the specific shape of the Bendaway version with its cutaway and slotted soundholes seems to provide more harmonic complexity in the trebles and tighter, more defined bass notes. The wooden body tones down the brash brightness of metal-body versions to a warmer feel, and helps make this one of the physically lightest resophonic guitars available.
The original National branded hard shell case is included.
