Here's an unusual guitar - a National El Trovador 12-String Long Scale single cone Resophonic guitar, built during August 2020 and in very good, clean condition. The long scale - 25.668 inches (652mm) helps with use of heavier strings and lower tunings. The 12-fret neck configuration puts the bridge closer to the center of the vibrating box, enhancing volume, projection and bottom end.
This guitar has two separate and distinct serial numbers. The label, visible through the bass F-Hole, reads 644 (with a date of 8-20 and Mike Dowling's signature) while the serial plate on the back of the head reads 23513. Though labelled as a serial number, the 644 is a production number.
Built on a classic single-cone resophonic body, the National El Trovador 12-String Long Scale uses Mahogany Laminates for the top, sides and back with solid Mahogany for the body blocks and neck. The 12-fret fingerboard is Ebony, and the slotted peghead has an Indian Rosewood head plate sporting the National shield logo decal. The finish is a satin polyester for durability and a 'slicker' feel to the neck.
This fully acoustic guitar is in very good condition with light fret wear and three small dents to the top near the tailpiece. It plays well, and has a massive sound.
The original National hard shell case is included; the case key is in the storage pocket.
Here's the builder on the National El Trovador:
"Its Spanish name translates as “The Troubadour,” and this wood-body single-cone National has been popular with musicians ever since its debut in 1932. This reissue was designed in collaboration with renowned blues and swing guitarist Mike Dowling.
Like the original, our El Trovador features a large, four-inch-deep body constructed of mahogany — a wood famed for its sonic properties. A wooden soundwell houses the resonator, adding to the unique sound projection. The body is bound in multi-layer celluloid, with a matching purfling border around the classic coverplate.
An ebony fretboard is mated to the solid mahogany neck, which is capped by a rosewood headstock overlay. With its rich, deep, warm tone, our El Trovador is one of National’s most popular guitars among troubadours everywhere."
