Description
Based on the HD-28, the Martin Special 28 Style was produced for a short time and possibly for specific dealers. The neck block is stamped 'SPECIAL' followed by the serial number. This is an exceptionally good sounding guitar, intended to suggest 1930's models.
Condition
Built during 2022, this example is in very good, clean condition with no appreciable wear of any kind. It appears to have only been played lightly, and given how good it sounds now with use it should develop into a spectacular instrument.
The original Geib-style, six-latch, Martin branded hard shell case is included.
Materials and Construction
Along with the Herringbone-trimmed D body, the Special '28 Style' features a 'Vintage Tone System' or VTS treated Adirondack Spruce top with forward shifted bracing and a faux-tortoise pickguard. Indian Rosewood is used for the sides, back and head plate. The body blocks, linings and neck are Mahogany. The fingerboard and bridge are Ebony, but not jet-black. The finish is Martin's Vintage Gloss on the body with a light satin effect on the neck. The tuners are open-gear Grover Sta-Tite models. There are no installed electronics, this is a purely acoustic instrument.
