DESCRIPTION:
Appearing as a 75-piece limited edition model for 75th anniversary of Lennon's birthday in 1950, the Martin D-28 John Lennon 75th Anniversary acoustic guitar model was built from late 2015 into 2016. On offer here is #33, in excellent, clean and original condition.
The Martin D-28 John Lennon 75th Anniversary model pairs an Adirondack Spruce top with Madagascar Rosewood for the sides, back and head plate, Mahogany for the body blocks and neck, and Ebony for the bridge and unbound fingerboard. The tuners are Waverly open gear models. Custom Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlays are found on the headstock (Lennon's self portrait caricature), the pickguard and the rosette; the back features a 'peace sign' created from the 'zipper' back strip material. The fingerboard inlays draw from the lyrics for several Beatles tunes, Lennon's signature, and his round glasses.
Overall, this Martin D-28 John Lennon 75th Anniversary model and its case are in excellent condition. The guitar plays well.
The original black hard shell case is included.
Martin also produced a D-28 John Lennon model but as a regular production item, distinct from the Limited Edition. That model used Indian Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate rather than Madagascar Rosewood, Sitka Spruce for the top rather than Adirondack, and the custom inlays are absent. That model has been discontinued.
