Here we’re looking at a very good, clean condition Martin 000-18 built during 2021 in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It features updated Style 18 specs, with a Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany sides, back, body blocks and neck, with Indian Rosewood for the head plate, but Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. The top and back are bound, while the fingerboard and bridge are not. Position markers are Mother of Pearl dots, and the pickguard is a faux-tortoise teardrop type, glued to the finish (not the top itself). The tuners are open gear Grover Sta-Tite models. The finish is a natural gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. There are no installed electronics, this guitar is fully acoustic. A strap pin has been added to the treble side of the heel.
Overall this 2021 Martin 000-18 is in very good, clean condition with vanishingly light wear. The 000-18 has a rich, full, well balanced, bright and lively sound with good volume and projection, excellent for fingerstyle and strumming. The body is more compact than larger D bodies (Dreadnoughts) and can be much more comfortable.
This Martin 000-18 is sold with its original black hard shell case with Martin plaque.
The Martin 000-18 is one of the company’s older and very well established designs, first appearing in 1924 and built until 1932, then from 1934 to today. At the end of 1929, the 12-fret neck 000 body design was altered to accommodate a 14-fret neck at the request of prominent banjo players – particularly bandleader Perry Bechtel – who were migrating to guitar, with the ‘new’ design named the OM or Orchestra Model. With the 1934 model, the 000-18 also shifted to the 14-fret design.
