Here we have a very good condition Huber VRB4 TrueTone Walnut 5-string banjo, with a highly figured Burl Walnut resonator and Rosewood fingerboard. Based on classic 1930s, pre-WW2 banjo designs, the Huber VRB4 delivers great tone and looks with modern reliability.
The Huber VRB4 features walnut construction, a HR-30 tone ring and Huber Engineered rim. Walnut is a traditional material for banjos and guitars, and was commonly found until the late 1930s when Mahogany and Maple displaced it.
Huber banjos are really built around Steve Huber’s concept of what made pre-war banjos distinctively warm and responsive – the tone ring. Over several years of hard hand work and experimentation, Steve Huber managed to reliably reproduce the design, specifications and alloys used in those rings. From there, he researched the subtler differences in the construction and materials in these older instruments. The results are audibly stunning with full, rich, brilliant tone.
This very fine Huber VRB4 was completed and shipped on January 20, 2014 so it's designated a 2014 model. However, the VRB4 model is only built to order and Huber currently quotes five months for delivery, so most of the construction and finishing was done during the second half of 2013. It's in great condition with very little wear to the finish. The low frets and the Rosewood fingerboard show a bit of play wear.
The original Huber hard shell case is included.
More From The Builder On The Huber VRB4 TrueTone banjo:
"The Huber VRB4 TrueTone is a careful likeness of the pre-war style 4 banjos featuring a blend of walnut and chrome that is very pleasing to the eye. It features our 1930’s style Huber HR-30 Tone Ring and Huber Engineered Rim.
The neck is made from the highest quality straight grain walnut, which is also used for the resonator side walls. The walnut neck imparts a sweet tone with clarity between the notes like no other model.
The resonator back features gorgeous figured walnut, inlaid with twin concentric rings of stained wood marquetry. Antiqued white/black/white binding finishes both the rosewood fingerboard and resonator side walls. The fingerboard and headstock are inlaid with the Flying Eagle pattern synonymous with style 4 banjos from the pre-war era, though the Hearts & Flowers pattern can be used at no additional charge.
In keeping with the originals from the 1930’s, all the metal parts on our VRB-4 are chrome plated. Grained ivoroid tuner buttons complete the vintage look on this model."
