Here we're looking at a first year, Gretsch Rambler 6115 Archtop Electric Lotus Ivory / Black from 1957. It's in very good, almost entirely original condition, in its sole two-tone colour scheme - a Lotus Ivory top with Black for the sides, back and neck. This is a great, lightweight little guitar that plays well and has a great sound provided by the DynaSonic pickup.
The Gretsch Rambler 6115 , built from 1957 to 1961, was a short scale (23.15 inch, 588mm) arched top, flat back hollow body electric guitar likely intended to compete with the even shorter scale (22.75 inch, 577.9mm) ES-140T Gibson introduced in 1956. Like the ES-140T, the Rambler sported a single pickup in the neck position. The pickup was deArmond DynaSonic until 1960 when it was replaced by a HiLo 'Tron.
The headstock has a two-level black over white overlay that's etched to produce the Gretsch logo and also provides a white line around the otherwise unbound head. The truss rod cover similarly has a red layer over white, and the 'G-cut' tailpiece has red fill in the G. The installed pickguard is a later dark transparent plexiglas part; the original pickguards on these guitars were 4-layer Black-white with no Gretsch logo. The tuners are the originalGrover Sta-Tite models with creme plastic buttons.
The body is Maple laminate, bound top and back. The neck is Maple with an unbound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, and the wooden bridge is also Brazilian. It's likely that it has been re-fretted by a professional at some point and has had a fret dress, and consequently plays very well.
For electronics, a single standard deArmond DynaSonic pickup is in the neck position, with a volume and tone control set and Gretsch G-Arrow knobs. The output jack is on the side.
The original Gretsch hard shell case is included, and is in great shape. The cases sold with these guitars were often built for the Duo Jet models, and this is the situation here. The case pocket is marked from the original retailer "Faust Music, Milwaukee's Drum Center". The case also contains the original Gretsch Guitar Guarantee sheet and registration card, and a printed description from the Gbase site.
