Produced in a few versions, the Gretsch G6131 Jet Firebird Reissue electric guitar, drew from the mid to late 1950's models, with the originals built from 1955 to 1971. All had the same construction with pickups and hardware changing over the years. To 1961, the body was a single-cutaway as seen here, and later with a double cutaway as seen in the hands of the late Malcolm Young.
The Jet model was introduced in 1953 as the 6128 Duo-Jet and intended to compete with the new Gibson Les Paul models. The design, though described as a solidbody, uses a chambered Mahogany back with a Maple laminate arched top, increasing resonance and decreasing weight. The neck is Mahogany, the fingerboard at some points Rosewood but shifting to Ebony; position markers were originally blocks, then 'hump blocks', and from 1958 the Neo-Classic 'thumbnail' markers as seen here.
Gretsch and Gibson also produced and patented hum-cancelling pickups at about the same time, Seth Lover's Humbucker and Ray Butt's Filter 'Tron.
Built during July of 2006 by Terada, this Gretsch G6131 Jet Firebird Reissue shipped with a Space Control bridge, updated to an Adjusto-Matic, and a G-Cutout tailpiece, replaced with a Gretsch-logo V-cut Bigsby B3C. The original parts are in the case, which is also original. The tuners are the original Grover Sta-Tite models as used on many Gretsch models. This version was in production from 2003 to 2019.
The electronics are original with the High Sensitive Filter 'Tron circuitry, two hum-cancelling pickups with individual volume controls and a master volume, pickup selector and three-position tone switch with the middle setting being a bypass.
When equipped with deArmond DynaSonic single coils, the wiring moves the tone control to a pot grouped with the pickup volumes.
This guitar is in very good clean condition, with very light wear mostly around the bridge base. It plays well with a comfortable weight, and Filter 'Tron pickups just sound great for almost any style of music.
Sold with its original hard shell case.
