Experience the timeless beauty of the Gretsch 6135 Corvette Cherry from 1964.
Gretsch introduced the Corvette in 1961 during a period of significant innovation and competition in the electric guitar market. Gibson had released the Les Paul Junior and the SG around this time.
Initially, the Corvette was a reimagined version of an earlier hollowbody model. By 1961, Gretsch had created a solidbody version in a variety of pickup and tailpiece configurations. The 6135 Corvette is a two pickup vibrato model, featuring two Hi-Lo’tron pickups and a Burns vibrato tailpiece set on an solid mahogany body with an asymmetrical double-cutaway glued-in mahogany neck.
This particular example is in good overall condition, with some general wear and tear within the normal parameters for its age. The cherry finish shows signs of play wear on the body and neck however this does not affect its playability. It has a solid mahogany glued-in medium sized neck, giving it a comfortable, chunky feel. The fretboard is unbound Brazilian rosewood with 22 frets and dot inlays. The tuners have been replaced. The pickups are the original Gretsch single-coil Hi-Lo'trons. These have the distinctive crunchy Gretsch tone with a touch of vintage warmth. The trem arm is included in the case and is working well, although much of the chrome plating has flaked off the tailpiece.
Despite its limited production run, the Corvette has earned a place in the evolution of the electric guitar, giving it an enduring appeal among collectors and players.
