DESCRIPTION:
The Gibson SJ-200 Autumn Burst Limited Edition appeared as a 125th anniversary model (though a few years early!) and was built in Bozeman, Montana until 2024. It uses a Sitka Spruce top with highly figured Maple for the sides, back and 3-piece neck - the neck has a center strip of Walnut. The body blocks and linings are Mahogany. The fingerboard and 'Moustache' bridge are Indian Rosewood, the inlay material is Mother of Pearl, and as the name suggests the finish is a very nice Autumn Burst. The tuners are Grover Imperials with three-step buttons, and the stock electronics include a LR Baggs™ VTC pickup and preamp set. Apart from its distinctive size and shape, the SJ-200 notably has a hand-painted pickguard and a complex 'Moustache' bridge.
This beautiful Gibson SJ-200 Autumn Burst Limited Edition example dates to January of 2017. The serial number decodes to January 05 2017 while the Quality Check card has a date of January 18 2017. On that card, the model is listed as SJ20ABG17 - decoding to SJ-200, Autumn Burst, Gold hardware, 2017. It is in overall very good clean condition with minor wear, though the pickguard is curling lightly and lifting. Based on the 1950's specs, this is a very good sounding and playing guitar.
The original Gibson Custom hard shell case is included, with all the case candy, strap, COA and QC card.
Originally called the SJ-200 (for Super Jumbo and $200) when launched in 1937 and advertised as the 'King of the Flattops', the model paired a Spruce top with Rosewood for the back and sides, and was built until 1941 and the American entry into WW2. Production resumed in 1947 with Maple for the sides and back with a rename to "J-200", though some were labelled as "SJ-200" into the 1950s. Since the 1990's, Gibson has alternated use of J-200 and SJ-200, with SJ-200 in current use.
