The Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard was built from 2000 to 2002 at Nashville, Tennessee and reflects but doesn’t exactly copy Moore’s 1959 Burst originally used by Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac.
Here we’re looking at a Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard dating to August 02, 2000 and built at the Nashville plant. As is typical for this model, it has no binding and wears a ‘Honeyburst’ nitrocellulose lacquer finish over a nicely figured, bookmatched top. The truss rod cover is embossed 'Gary Moore' in gold script lettering. It is in overall very good condition with few dents or bumps and light fret wear. The stock frets are fairly large.
This model features BurstBucker pickups and was apparently the first to do so. Note that the neck pickup is in 'backwards', with the adjustable pole pieces closer to the bridge to help produce the middle-position tones mentioned below.
The tuners are standard Gibson Deluxe type, with plastic keystone buttons. The neck is a based on a 1959 profile, but not overly full.
Taking a regular Les Paul body and neck, the Gibson Gary Moore model does away with body and neck binding, and has a wiring or magnetic configuration that mimics the ‘out of phase’ middle switch position tone on Peter Green’s Burst. Green felt that the pickup had been physically reversed, but in reality one of the pickup magnets may have been reversed as a manufacturing error. In any case, this produces tones not normally available in a Les Paul. Guitar World discussed this pickup arrangement in an article in October, 2018.
The original brown Gibson branded hard shell case is included with this Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard.
