Here we have a nicely preserved natural finish Fender Precision Bass with Maple neck, built during 1979 in Fullerton, California during CBS ownership. The body is Ash, the neck is a single piece of Maple with a walnut 'Skunk Stripe' covering the rear-mounted truss rod channel. The natural body finish is poly and in rather good condition with light wear, while the neck finish is in good clean condition. The bass was refretted and PLEK'd by Ian Weston at Weston Instruments in Ottawa, Ontario and subsequent wear is negligible.
Introduced in 1951 and still in production with relatively minor changes, the Fender Precision Bass is an example of a designer getting almost everything right. Immediately, it almost completely displacing the upright bass it was intended to challenge, and it has become one of the most-used and most-recorded instruments in history. It's not too much of a stretch to say that the Precision Bass altered the way that music is presented particularly in large venues at high volumes.
This 1979 Fender Precision bass is in great condition particularly given its history. The current (and second) owner tells us that this bass was used on tours with The Fifth Dimension and on many sessions with Nashville artists.
A very good condition, modern early 60's style G&G brown rectangular Fender hard shell case is included and contains the bridge and pickup covers.
