Shown here is a Fender HardTail Stratocaster electric guitar in Natural finish, dating to 1975 and built at the Fullerton, California plant during the era of CBS ownership. It is in overall good physical and playing condition with light checking and expected wear to the poly finish. Fret wear is generally light to moderate, and the guitar was recently set up by The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop. It plays well and cleanly.
The Fender HardTail Stratocaster was launched in 1954 with what became the much more common Tremolo bridge Stratocaster version, and was always available until it was discontinued in 1983. It's now only available in limited runs or as a Custom Shop order.
The Fender HardTail Stratocaster differences lie entirely in the body routing - only the pickup and output jack cavities plus the neck pocket are routed out. This can make the guitar slightly heavier with marginally increased sustain. The fixed hardtail bridge can also help tuning be stabler, as the bridge can't move. Consequently, these models were more commonly found with session or rhythm players who might seldom use a trem bridge. Some guitarists, notably Eric Clapton, blocked the trems on their Strats to accomplish the same thing.
This Fender HardTail Stratocaster features an Ash body, a common choice for Natural finishes. The neck is Maple with the Walnut 'Skunk Stripe' covering the rear-mounted truss rod channel. From later 1971, Fender necks shifted to a head-accessed truss rod adjuster - the Bullet - meaning that truss rod tweaks without damage to the body or pickguard no longer required removing the neck.At the same time, the three-bolt MicroTilt neck joint was introduce, making neck angle adjustments a matter of minutes.
The original case is included - a black rectangular Fender model. The case contains the 'Ashtray' bridge cover, a curly cord, and unusually a Shure 517SB Lo-Z Unidyne B mic with cable and Hi-Z transformer adapter.
