Description
Subtle and understated, this Fender American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster in Aztec Gold finish dates to October of 2012 and is in very good, clean condition. This guitar would fit well into any formal wear orchestra pit band.
The original G&G built case, containing the hang tags, tools, trem arm, strap, cord and case candy, is included.
Fender introduced the Jazzmaster in 1958 in part to attempt to enlarge Fender's market and market share by appealing to jazz guitarists - who happened to generally be Gibson customers. A key part of this strategy was the introduction of a Rosewood fingerboard rather than the Maple fingerboard so closely associated with Fender guitars. As an added bonus, a Rosewood fingerboard does not wear and discolour as a Maple fingerboard does, important when the guitarist is working in dress suits in high end venues.
The American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster is regarded as one of the best reissues of this model. It is surpassed only by the 'Thin Skin' dealer special version, which sported a thinner nitrocellulose lacquer finish rather than heavier nitro finish on the standard model, a colour-matched headstock, a 9.5 inch fingerboard radius and tall Dunlop 6105 fretwire rather than the stock 7.25 inch board with vintage style frets, and a significant price difference.
As a reissue of a 1965 model, a 'vintage style' truss rod was used which places the adjustment nut at the heel rather than at the head. Often either the pickguard or neck must be removed to make the adjustment without damage.
