DESCRIPTION:
Here we're looking at a very good condition Fender American Vintage 62 Custom Telecaster in three-tone sunburst, dating to June of 2011 at Corona, California. It features an Alder body, bound for a classy appearance, paired with a vintage-style Maple neck with 'Slab' style 7.5 inch radius fingerboard and body-end truss rod adjustment. The neck is a 'C' shape, which to my hands is one of the most comfortable profiles. It is in all round very good to excellent condition, with very light wear and natural oxidization of the nickel plating.
The original excellent vintage style brown tolex hard shell case by G&G is included and is in as good condition as the instrument. The original strap and 'Ashtray' bridge cover are in the accessory pocket.
Built from 1999 to 2012, the Fender American Vintage '62 Telecaster® Custom reproduces the first 'Custom' production telecaster that appearead in 1959, and was somewhat confusingly referred to as the 'Custom Telecaster' on the headstock, but often 'Telecaster Custom' in other materials. This model was built until 1971 when it was dropped from the catalog.
The name was then re-used for a significantly revised model with the new Seth Lover designed Wide Range Humbucking pickups, head-located Bullet truss rod, three-bolt Micro Tilt neck, unbound body, and much larger pickguard with Gibson style switching and controls. The 'Original' Custom Telecaster was then re-issued from 1999 to 2012.
Here's the builder on the Fender American Vintage '62 Telecaster® Custom:
"Introduced because maple tended to show wear, rosewood became a popular fingerboard option that also added warmth to the classic Telecaster® tone. The American Vintage '62 Custom Telecaster has a double-bound alder body and multi-ply pickguard that distinguish it from its Butterscotch predecessor. In the spirit of the original, it has a C-shaped maple neck, 7.25"-radius rosewood fingerboard, dual '62 Custom Telecaster single-coil pickups, vintage Telecaster bridge with threaded steel saddles, and original Tele® circuit with three-position switch."
