Introduced in 1986, the Epiphone Sheraton II Left Handed Vintage Burst differs only slightly from the 'PRO' model, which offers coil splitting on both pickups. The core guitar is the same for both models. Like other 335-based instruments, the body is Maple laminate with a Maple center block and Mahogany body blocks, the neck is Maple with a bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard and Mother of Pearl block position markers with Abalone V-inserts.The tuners are Grover Rotomatics, and all hardware is gold-coloured.
Here we're looking at an Epiphone Sheraton II Left Handed Vintage Burst Model dating to March of 2004, built at the Unsung plant in Incheon. It is in overall very good condition, with light play wear to the finish and frets.
There is some light finish scuffing at the back of the head but the head appears unbroken, instead perhaps suggesting some finish damage from a stand.
Sold without case, but we can source a suitable gig bag.
The Epiphone Sheraton first appeared in 1958 as deluxe alternate to the new and innovative Gibson ES-335. Gibson had purchased the remains of Epiphone the previous year and the Sheraton helped lead the way for the brand relaunch. The early models used the small-format 'New York' hum cancelling pickups, with full size humbuckers found in later production. US production of Epiphone models ended in 1969 and moved to Japan, then to Korea. The Sheraton itself went out of production until Japanese reissues appeared for 1982 and 1983.
The Sheraton II appeared in 1986, and these used both full size humbuckers and a stop tailpiece instead of the classic Epiphone 'Frequensator' tailpiece. Currently, only the Sheraton II PRO is in the Epiphone catalog.
A limited number of US-made reissues also appeared in 1993 and 1994, for a total run of about 250 guitars.
