Shown here is a Eastman T486 BK thinline archtop electric with a translucent gloss black finish on flamed Maple laminate, built during March of 2019. Complete and original and currently strung with flat-wounds, the pickguard was removed and is in the case. It is in overall good to very good condition, with a small dent on the bass side waist.
The Eastman T486 Thinline is an excellent take on the revolutionary, highly versatile semi-hollow design introduced in 1958 by Ted McCarty, president of Gibson as the ES-335.
Like most other versions of this design, the Eastman T486 uses pressed Maple Laminate for the top, back and sides, with a Maple block running down the center of the body. The top has a pair of F holes, and here they are bound as on an ES-355. On the Eastman, the neck is Maple with a bound Ebony fingerboard sporting Mother of Pearl Split Block Parallelogram inlays, similar to an ES-345.
For hardware, the Eastman T486 features Kluson Deluxe style tuners, which aid in keeping the headstock weight down, aiding balance. A Gotoh Tune-o-Matic style bridge is paired with a stop tailpiece; the 'B' model adds a Bigsby. Electronics start with standard Gibson style wiring, and a pair of Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups - a Jazz SH-2 at the neck and a '59 SH-1 at the bridge.
This is a great instrument, well designed and well built. It plays well, and sounds great for a wide range of genres.
This Eastman T486 BK is sold with a very good condition Gator hard shell case built during 2020, and contains the pickguard.
