This Conde Hermanos Flamenco Blanca guitar was built during 1982 at Gravina 7, Madrid. It is constructed in the traditional Spanish method, with the sides slotted into the heel of the neck. This is a long-scale instrument at 653mm (26.1 inches). The clear finish has a slight reddish tint, reminiscent of a Ramirez cedar top.
For materials, the top is Red Cedar (likely Canadian), paired with Cypress for the sides and back, with Indian Rosewood binding. The neck and its integrated neck block are Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata), with an Ebony fingerboard and Indian Rosewood headplate. The bridge appears to be Brazilian Rosewood but could possibly be Cocobolo. While many builders worldwide ceased purchase and major use of Brazilian Rosewood after 1967, stocks of parts like bridge blanks were used while they existed until the wood was finally CITES listed in 1992.
The label is printed in green ink and reads:"Conde Hermanos Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso Constructores Ano 1982 Gravina, 7 Atocha, 53 Madrid"
At one time, this guitar was equipped with some kind of pickup leading to an output jack mounted to the side. This was all removed, the hole plugged and finished over and there are no indications of wiring running through the top.
As a Flamenco model, the top has been fitted with Golpeador - thin, clear plastic tap plates intended to protect the thin top and finish from both 'Golpe' or 'Gesto' tapping and fingers brushing the top during 'Rasguedo' follow-through. Still, the top has some wear below the treble plate. Normal and expected finish wear is found around the instrument - it has been used as intended! Fret wear is light and a set of Schaller classical tuners have been installed.
The owner has strung it using a set of 'string beads', which replicate the function of a ball-end as found on most steel-string acoustic or electric guitar strings. In addition to making restringing a bit faster, this allows full downward pressure of the string on the saddle. Another approach for this effect is to modify the tie-block to 12 holes.
Overall this guitar is in good physical and playing condition. It has a well-developed, full and rich voice and the action is comfortable.
Sold with a more recent Japanese hard shell case.
