This Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop brings to mind learning to play while listening to Thin Lizzy albums! Offered from 1969 to 1985, the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe delivered a brighter, more focused yet warm sound via its mini-humbucker pickups which, with trim rings, happened to fit in the standard P-90 route.
Technically similar to Gibson's full sized humbuckers, this mini-humbucker design originated with the Epiphone brand, appearing just before Epiphone's 1957 acquisition by Gibson. They continued to be installed on 'Jazz' oriented models like the Riviera and Sheraton. But by 1969, Gibson wanted another Les Paul version and using the original routing patterns on a 'Pancake' body and a pair of mini-humbuckers with trim rings modelled on cut-out P-90 'soapbar' covers, created the Les Paul Deluxe, otherwise essentially a renamed Les Paul Standard. Initially available in the classic Gold Top finish, the Deluxe was eventually also available in Cherry Sunburst, Tobacco Sunburst, Wine Red, and Walnut. The Deluxe was also available by order with both P-90 or full sized humbucker pickups.
The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe shown here was built during 1973 at Kalamazoo, Michigan and is in largely original condition except for the tuners bridge and tailpiece; the original Gibson Deluxe models were replaced with gold plated Schaller M6 models, the bridge and tailpiece are a newer Gotoh 'Titanium' finish set. ;At some point the headstock cracked and was repaired, with some overspray at the headstock. The Gold-Top and body nitrocellulose lacquer finish show a fair amount of natural, expected checking with light to moderate 'buckle rash' on the back; there are a few normal dings and dents around the edges of the body. At the ends of the bridge, the finish is scraped away from older adjustments to the bridge height. The frets are original, wide and low, and the fingerboard has light to moderate wear.
A newer Gibson USA hard shell case is included.
