The Fender American Standard Precision Bass guitar was from 1986 to 2016 the ‘Standard’ model of the bass whose 1951 introduction changed the way music is presented, performed and recorded. The Standard series included most of Fender's other flagship models.
This American Standard Precision Bass was built during August 2003 at the Fender plant in Corona, California. It sports a three-tone Sunburst finish and is in good condition with moderate wear and a small chip on the pickguard near the output jack.
Combining an Alder body and a Maple neck with separate Maple fingerboard, this version also sports improved hardware including Fender® “F” Light-Weight Vintage-Paddle Keys with Tapered Shafts and the new 4-Saddle HiMass™ Vintage bridge. This excellent bridge can be used in either String-Through-Body or Topload configuration – here it is string-through.
The original rectangular hard shell case is included.
At the time Leo Fender introduced a bass to match the quickly-accepted Telecaster and Esquire models, bass parts were normally played on acoustic, upright basses. For all of their great points, there are a number of limitations to the upright bass; it’s big, fairly heavy, with a limited amount of volume. And in the hands of unskilled players, tuning could be a bit – imprecise. Leo recognized this, and deliberately added frets to the design and marketed it as the ‘Precision’ bass, referring to the precise pitches now easily available to any player. And of course, with the Precision bass, the only limitation on volume is how much amplifier is available.
The Precision Bass has gone on to be the most recorded instrument design, appearing on countless stages and recordings in almost all genres.
