Shown here is a Lakland USA Bob Glaub 44-64 Bass with Rosewood fingerboard and Sonic Blue finish, built during 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. Bob Glaub is a highly experienced American bassist who has long worked with Jackson Browne and many other top rank artists.
Pairing an Ash body and a graphite-reinforced Maple neck with Indian Rosewood fingerboard and Maple dot position markers, the Bob Glaub 44-64 bass is influenced by Leo Fender's Precision Bass and StingRay designs. Rosewood was chosen as the fingerboard for its tendency to be "mellower on the treble side with great midrange and thick bass".
For hardware, solid open-gear Hipshot HB1 tuners are at the head, and a very MusicMan-looking bridge is at the body end. There are ferrules on the back, allowing the bridge to be strung either through-body or top-loaded at the back edge of the bridge. The pickup is a custom Lakland split humbucker with volume, tone and output jack mounted on the faux-tortoise pickguard - simple and very effective.
This example is in very good, clean condition with negligible wear. It plays well, and sounds great.
The original Lakland branded black rectangular hard shell case is included.
The name 'Lakland', pronounced Lake-land', uses the names of bassist Dan Lakin and luthier Hugh McFarland. They launched the company at the 1994 summer NAMM show, and production started in 1995.
More From The Builder On The Lakland USA Bob Glaub 44-64 Bass And On Lakland:
"The 44-64 is modeled after the venerable workhorse ’64 P bass. One custom-wound Lakland pickup provides a bruising punch and drive that nails the vintage split humbucker tone, sending it through the roof with full voicing and modern energy. The body and 34″ scale maple neck have an excellent balance. Standard 1.75” taper measured at the nut is 60’s spec, with a slim front to back profile just like the most comfortable and sought after vintage pieces.
Lakland Bass Guitars are a family-owned product considered to be among the market’s most well-respected instruments; favored by discerning players and professional artists worldwide. The vintage comfort and contemporary ingenuity of our basses deliver an unparalleled playing experience.
The USA Series and USA Classic Series are built in Lakland’s Chicago facility, one at a time, with a true custom shop approach, not a mass production environment.
Since the introduction of our flagship models in the mid-1990s, our basses have been recognized for their superior tone, playability, and construction."
